Course content

The course includes:

• Operate the crane safely and efficiently

• Recognised signals for controlling crane operations

• Deciding if a load is within capacity

• Minor adjustments and routine maintenance

• Capabilities, and safety precautions

• Service procedure

• Safe-load indicators, overload warning devices

• Working radius and lifting capacity

• Secure, check, and maintain counterweights

• Shock loading, and structural strength and stability

• Principles of safe slinging, lifting gear, security, and balance of load

• Statutory regulations for lifting equipment, operator’s legal obligations.

Teaching and assessment

• 4 days classroom learning and practical exercises

• 1-day CPCS technical tests.

What you get

• CPCS trained operator card (red card) on passing the CPCS technical tests

• CITB National Construction College e-certificate available on request.

Entry requirements

1. CITB HS&E test passed within the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards.

2. Good spoken and written English.

3. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
