A four-day course on the operation of a ride-on road roller for those with little or no experience. Get your CPCS Trained Operator (red) Card if you pass the technical test.

Course content

The course includes:

  • All pre-start, running, and shut-down procedures

  • Set roller for travel

  • Awareness of on-site hazards

  • Set the roller for compaction duties

  • Place roller in out-of-service 

  • Recognise compacted/uncompacted areas

  • Conditions that may cause instability

  • Safety procedures for unsupported edges

  • Loading and unloading a transporter.

Teaching and assessment

  • 3 days classroom learning and practical exercises

  • 1 day CPCS technical tests.

What you get

  • CPCS Trained Operator Card (red card) on passing the CPCS technical tests

  • CITB National Construction College e-certificate available on request.

Entry requirements

  1. Good spoken and written English.

  2. CITB HS&E test passed within the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards.

  3. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
