CITB is strongly committed to safeguarding all learners and staff against harm, abuse and bullying or harassment.

Our commitment goes beyond our legal requirements relating to the welfare and protection of vulnerable people. We actively promote the well-being of everyone at the college, and ensure that this is central to our planning, decision-making and day-to-day practice.

This privacy notice relates to the information you share with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) when you discuss any additional support needs you require for your studies, or any other aspect of your attendance at college.

Confidentiality in health and welfare

This policy describes CITB’s responsibilities in keeping information about your health and wellbeing private. When you start your course, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form to show that you are aware of the policy.

Safety and risk assessments

We are committed to delivering our products and services in a safe and responsible manner that respects the health and safety of our employees, customers, learners, stakeholders and communities in which we operate and the environment. We aim to achieve zero harm and prevent pollution.

Smoking on NCC sites

There are designated places on campus where you can smoke and vape during breaks allocated by your instructor. We provide cigarette bins to help keep the college clean and tidy.

Smoking and vaping are not permitted in training areas or onsite accommodation and there are limited smoking shelters.

This reflects our legal duties to prevent smoking in enclosed spaces. We also follow government guidelines to help people to stop smoking.

Drugs and alcohol

If your judgement is impaired by alcohol or drugs while working in a high-risk environment, you can put your life, and your work mates’ lives, in danger. This is why we take a serious approach to alcohol and drug use at the college.

The alcohol limit at the college is 0.15 mg/L per 1000 units, which is less than the current drink drive limit.

We have a drug and alcohol testing policy whereby we reserve the right to test anyone who we suspect is misusing alcohol or drugs while studying here. We have facilities to test for drug and alcohol use at the college. A positive result in these tests will lead to immediate suspension and possible removal from your course.

The college may undertake random drug testing.

Taking photographs

If you would like to take photographs while at the college, you will first need to get permission from the duty person in the area. The use of equipment to film, record or photograph is otherwise not permitted in the training and leisure areas at the college.

Weapons

It is not permitted to bring any weapons or implements to college that could be dangerous and harmful to yourself or others. This includes any object that could be used to threaten or injure another person, such as knives, other sharp objects and firearms.

Failure to comply with this will result in disciplinary action and possible removal from your course.

All policies and procedures will be made available to any relevant person on request.
