Support for the HS&E test
CITB offers a variety of reasonable adjustments for candidates taking the HS&E test at a Pearson Professional Centre. The candidate does not necessarily have to have a disability (as defined by the Equality Act 2010)

The following reasonable adjustments are available to book via the ‘online booking journey’
Voiceovers available in the below languages, these are to support you to hear the test questions and possible answers in your chosen language. The questions and answers displayed on the screen will remain in English

Someone appointed by CITB will attend the centre with you in person to support with the below
A Translator can be provided if there’s no voiceover for your language
A Reader is a person who will read the test questions and possible answers to you exactly as they appear on screen
A Reader-Recorder is a person who will read the test questions and possible answers to you and record the answers as you provide them.
If you take your test with the assistance of a translator, a reader or a reader-recorder, you’ll be provided with a separate room at the test centre and extra time to complete your test.
Please note – Waiting times may be longer than usual for a test appointment to allow CITB to assign an appropriately qualified individual to provide these services.

When contacting the Adjustments team to make a request, please provide the following information:
which HS&E test you want to take (Operatives, Specialist or Managers and Professionals – you can use the CSCS card finder
where you would like to take your test (which test centre)
what reasonable adjustment you require
any evidence you have support your request i.e. (Statement of special education needs relating to secondary education, Psychological assessment carried out by a qualified psychologist, or specialist assessment carried out by a specialist tutor)
Once your request is received, a member of the Adjustments team will contact you to discuss your requirements and complete your booking (subject to availability).
When you book your test, you can check the accessibility arrangements at your Pearson Professional Test Centre, for example, ramps or parking spaces for disabled drivers.
